100 gecs

type of thing: music

i first heard 100 gecs in a lucky star amv when i was 40 songs deep in youtube mix. i didn't like it? and thought it was bad? but also was immediately transported back to exactly how it felt to be 19 and depressed. (the song was bloodstains)

i think that's a dimension that's not really addressed in a lot of talk about 100 gecs (esp from millennials and older), that their music is really sincere. like sure, it sounds like every single song from myspace thrown in a blender and passed through one of those deep fried meme filters, or like what old people are scared the future of music is gonna sound like. it also sounds like two friends having fun making music together, saying the things they want to say.

this is the first band i've earnestly loved whose shows i'm too old to go to. thankfully covid means they're only playing minecraft shows rn and teens can't bully me there.
